Franco Fontana, born 1933 in Modena (Preise signiert, nummeriert und datiert: 2400 € - 13200 €)
Franco Fontana is known as the inventor of the photographic line referred to as
concept of line.
He began working as an amateur photographer in 1961. His first personal
exposition was in 1968 in Modena. Since then he has participated in more
than 400 expositions - collective and personal - and his work is bought
in approximately 60 museum collections all over the world.
He has been signed for numerous publicity campaigns, as FIAT,
VOLKSWAGEN, National Railways, VOLVO, VERSACE, CANON, KODAK, SNAM, STET,
MONDRIAN, J.WALKER, ALITALIA, SWISSAIR, LA RINASCENTE.
He works with TIME-LIFE, VOGUE USA, VOGUE FRANCE, VENDERDI DI
REPUBBLICA, PANORAMA, FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE, EPOCA and many more
distinguished publications.
His work has been published in more than 40 books in various editions in
Italian, Japanese, French, German, Swiss, English and Spanish. His
numerous awards include the 1989 Tokyo Photographer Society of Japan -
The 150 Years of Photography - Photographer Award.

Franco Fontana
- 1963 Invited to exhibit his work at the 3rd Biennial Exhibition of Colour in Vienna
- 1967 Travelled to Prague, returning with unique photographs including the famous ‘automobile rossa',
an icon of contemporary photography, which was rejected at a competition organized by an important
multinational operating in photography field.
- 1968 First solo exhibition held at the Galleria della Sala di Cultura, Modena.
- 1970 Published his first book, "Modena una città"
- 1972 Solo exhibition at Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara
- 1979 Exhibition at Die Brücke gallery in Vienna, which marked the beginning of his international
reputation. Started to work on the ‘Presenza/Assenza' series.
- 1984 Travelled in the United States discovering urban landscapes as a new subject. "Piscine" series
- 1993 Traveled ‘photographically' along Route 66
2003 Started to work on the ‘Asfalti' series
- 2004 Exhibition Palazzo Reale, Milano
