Abe Frajndlich (prices: 1000 € - 25000 €)
Abe Frajndlich born in Germany in 1946, lives and works in New York City. He studied with the renowned photographer Minor White, and his work has been exhibited in numerous venues worldwide. His photograph(e)s have been published in several monographs as well as in Life, New York Times Magazine, London Sunday Times, ArtNews, American Photographer, Frankfurter Allgemeine Magazin, and in other publications.
He became famous with photographs of movie stars, film directors, rock'n roll legends, artists and other creative personalities. His photographs speak to the viewer through symbols, and are often humorous, and always unexpected.: The actor Jack Lemmon holds two lemons where his eyes should be: Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein peers warily over a paint brush moustace.
Frajndlich asks his subjects to present themselves in a personal mannner, encouraging them to give the viewer a(n) chance to glimpse the complexity of their characters. By juxtaposing famous faces and the thing we might immediately, even subconsciously, associate(d) them with, Frajndlich achieves what few photographers ever do: he opens a window on very public lives by taking their portraits in a very intimate manner.
Beside the portraits, he is also known for his nude photographs, as well as self portraits going back to 1970.
